Highlighting progress on core services and a step forward in public safety staffing.
SAN ANTONIO (September 19, 2025) – The San Antonio City Council has adopted the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, advancing investments in infrastructure, creek way and drainage improvements, homelessness initiatives, additional police officers, enhanced fire squads, and a comprehensive fire department needs assessment. The budget also funds senior nutrition programs and youth services.
Councilwoman Misty Spears expressed appreciation for the work of City staff, colleagues, and the District 9 team in navigating a challenging budget process. The budget reflects difficult decisions but demonstrates a commitment to progress in areas such as infrastructure, economic growth, and services that directly improve the quality of life for residents.
“This budget funds 40 new police officers — a hard-fought step forward from an initial proposal of zero,” Spears said. “While the benchmark remains 65 officers, this outcome moves San Antonio closer to keeping the promise to reduce crime and ensure every resident feels safe in their neighborhood.”
“The best day to begin work on next year’s budget is tomorrow,” Councilwoman Spears added. “Public safety, infrastructure, and economic growth will continue to guide every decision.”
