SAN ANTONIO (September 26, 2025) – District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears shared the following statement regarding the first 100 days in office: “Our first 100 days are just the beginning, and this milestone reflects meaningful progress for our families and neighborhoods. I’m committed to building a stronger, safer, and more connected District 9, with a clear focus on public safety, infrastructure, and community engagement to ensure the district’s voice is strong at City Hall.”

Public Safety First

“One of the earliest priorities has been strengthening security. I have continuously advocated for increasing police and fire rescue presence while supporting first responders, along with pressing for 65 additional patrol officers citywide in the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget. While the trial budget initially offered zero new officers, negotiations led to 40 being added. This reflects our steady progress toward the goal of robust, visible patrols that deter speeding, theft, and other neighborhood crime. I will continue efforts to protect our most vulnerable communities by spearheading initiatives to help the victims of domestic violence and elder abuse.”

Infrastructure & Neighborhood Priorities

“The District 9 team is beginning work on long-term improvements that directly affect the families of our district. Flood control, drainage, and neighborhood road safety are top priorities. The team has worked to secure traffic studies and funding for street and drainage improvements. These issues will help guide future advocacy and shape upcoming budget decisions and capital projects.”

Committee Appointments Driving Policy

“Appointments to the Public Safety, Transportation & Infrastructure, and Economic & Workforce Development Committees give District 9 representation in shaping citywide priorities. These assignments position the office to influence workforce programs, public safety staffing, transit planning, and small business support.

“In addition to City Council committees, I was also appointed to the Alamo Area Council of Governments, the Community Action Advisory Board, and the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. These regional appointments extend our reach beyond District 9, allowing for collaboration on transportation planning, infrastructure investment, workforce development, and regional growth strategies that affect the entire San Antonio metro area.”

Serving the Community

“Constituent services remain at the heart of the mission. The District 9 team has committed to fast response times, assisted with neighborhood concerns ranging from code compliance to drainage, and hosted outreach events such as teacher supply drives, blood drives, and senior engagement programs. To date, we have successfully closed more than 300 constituent cases and connected with 14,000 residents. Outreach efforts have provided classroom supplies for more than 54 elementary school teachers, collected 26 units of blood, and helped impact 78 lives through donation drives.”

Looking Ahead

“The next phase of work will keep the focus on basics: increasing the number of first responders and improving public safety, increasing small business support, enhancing our thriving industries, advancing infrastructure priorities, and building stronger connections with residents through town halls and listening sessions.

“I am committed to ensuring that every street and every family sees progress, building a foundation that goes beyond the first 100 days and into the future.”
