District 9 Councilwoman Named Tri-Chair of San Antonio’s Military Transformation Task Force

SAN ANTONIO (January 21, 2026) – District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears has been named Tri-Chair of the Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF), a regional leadership body focused on strengthening military missions, supporting long-term economic stability, and reinforcing San Antonio’s role as Military City, USA® and Military Medical City USA®.

Councilwoman Spears will serve in a leadership capacity alongside regional business, non-profit and military partners to help guide strategic discussions related to military mission and installation growth, sustainability, operational readiness, infrastructure planning, workforce development, and quality-of-life considerations for service members and their families. Early involvement through the task force ensures that local priorities are incorporated into decision-making processes that directly impact the military defense community.

“San Antonio’s military presence is central to both our national security and our local economy,” said the Councilwoman. “Serving as Tri-Chair allows for early engagement and ensures our city remains a strong and reliable partner to those who serve.”

The Councilwoman’s leadership reflects a proactive approach to governance that emphasizes coordination, foresight, and collaboration between the City of San Antonio, military leadership, and regional stakeholders. By engaging early in discussions about growth and transformation, the City is better positioned to protect surrounding neighborhoods, support military families, and plan for sustainable economic development.

San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, the largest joint base in the Department of Defense and a major economic driver, contributing more than $55 billion to the region. The MTTF plays a critical role in safeguarding this legacy by preparing for future mission needs while strengthening the long-term resilience of the local economy.

“This work is about partnership and preparation,” said the Councilwoman. “By planning ahead and working together, we can ensure San Antonio remains mission-ready, economically strong, and a city where military families can thrive.”
