District 9 Councilmember Supports Spurs Arena Negotiations, Commits to Transparency and Public Accountability

SAN ANTONIO (August 8, 2025) – During the B Session of the San Antonio City Council on Wednesday, August 6, Councilmember Misty Spears joined a majority of the Council in expressing support for continued negotiations on the proposed Downtown Sports & Entertainment District, which includes the Spurs arena and surrounding development.

“This signals our intent to continue good-faith negotiations, not a final decision on the project,” Councilmember Spears said. “As we move forward, transparency is non-negotiable. There will be no back-room deals. We’re putting our cards on the table to get the best possible deal for the people of San Antonio.”

The Councilmember emphasized that residents have been waiting for more information, looks forward to providing clarity as details and figures continue to emerge, and stressed the importance of public input and voter control. “The voters will ultimately decide. Our job is to make sure they have every fact they need to make an informed choice.”

Councilmember Spears will continue working alongside Council colleagues and City Staff to ensure public trust remains central to the process.
