SAN ANTONIO (January 5, 2026) – In recognition of National Blood Donor Month, the City Hall building will be illuminated red this January as part of an initiative coordinated by City Council District 8 to honor blood donors and raise awareness about the ongoing need for lifesaving blood donations.

National Blood Donor Month is observed each January to encourage blood donation during one of the most challenging times of the year for maintaining an adequate blood supply. San Antonio is served by the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, which provides blood and blood products to hospitals across more than 40 counties in South Texas. One blood donation can help save up to three lives.

“Recognizing National Blood Donor Month is about more than awareness— it’s about reminding our community that blood donation is a critical public service,” said District 8 Councilmember Ivalis Meza Gonzalez. “By highlighting this need, we hope to thank those who donate and encourage others to consider giving.”

Residents interested in donating blood or learning more are encouraged to contact South Texas Blood & Tissue.
