SAN ANTONIO (October 8, 2026) – Following City Council’s approval of the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) proposed rate adjustment, District 8 Councilmember Ivalis Meza Gonzalez released the following statement:

“Today, I voted to approve the SAWS rate adjustment. This was not an easy decision, especially as so many San Antonio families navigate rising costs and stretch their household budgets. Recognizing that any increase in utility rates adds a burden for residents is a responsibility that weighed heavily on the decision.

“At the same time, we cannot overlook the reality of our city’s aging water and wastewater infrastructure. Delaying necessary investments today risks more costly repairs, service disruptions, and greater financial burdens on residents in the future. As our city continues to grow, we have a responsibility to keep our infrastructure safe, reliable, and able to meet our community’s needs.

“I remain committed to ensuring that SAWS is accountable for these investments, that ratepayers are treated fairly, and that we continue working toward reliable and resilient water services for District 8 and all of San Antonio.”
