District 7 Councilmember Hosts Free Back-to-School Fair

SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2026) – District 7 Councilmember Marina Alderete Gavito is inviting families to a free Back-to-School Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, in the John Marshall High School Cafeteria, 8000 Lobo Lane, 78240. The event offers backpacks, school supplies, and connections to community resources ahead of the new school year.

Families can pick up backpacks and school supplies at no cost, sign kids up for complimentary VIA bus passes, and meet with local organizations offering additional resources and support. Please note that children must be present to receive a backpack.

The District 7 Councilmember stated, "Every kid deserves to walk into that first day of school feeling ready and confident. This fair is about making sure our neighbors have what they need, and connecting them with resources that support their kids well beyond the first day of school.

“New to this year, I am excited to have VIA present to sign students up for complimentary VIA bus passes, an initiative my office led earlier this year to tackle chronic absenteeism and remove transportation barriers for youth.”
