SAN ANTONIO (July 29, 2025) – “As discussions around the proposed Sports & Entertainment District continue, the District 6 Office remains focused on ensuring that each conversation moves with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and long-term benefits for our community,” District 6 Councilmember Ric Galvan said.

“We recognize the potential of a thoughtfully planned district to bring people together, spark economic development, and position San Antonio as a destination for sports, culture, and entertainment. But these goals must be paired with a clear understanding of the financial implications and a strong commitment to community benefit.

“Our office believes in creating the conditions that foster sustainable growth and hope for the future, especially for working families across our city. That means asking critical questions – about how the Tax Improvement Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) funds are going to be used, what immediate infrastructure improvements are included, and whether those investments will return value to our general fund and neighborhoods that need it the most. I believe, at this point, there’s not enough publicly available information to fully understand how this project will be financed, and how soon we will be seeing a return on investment.

“Equally important is the need to take the history and voices of the surrounding communities seriously. This includes honoring the cultural legacy of the area and ensuring that any future development is rooted in fairness, transparency, and a people-first vision. Community input, clear benefit agreements, and neighborhood enhancements must be part of the process.

“San Antonio should be bold in vision, particularly in how we deliver for our working families. We know the record of top-down economic development approaches, so we will continue to push for economic development that lifts our communities. And we’ll continue working to ensure our public dollars, no matter how large the project, deliver for the public it’s meant to serve. We are committed to continuing this conversation with our constituents. We encourage residents to stay engaged and share their input as more details emerge.”
