District 6 Launches Partnership with Animal Care Services at Community Care Days
SAN ANTONIO (February 5, 2026) – Council District 6 is continuing its monthly Community Care Days, held every second Wednesday of the month, with an exciting new addition: a first-of-its-kind partnership with San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) and Penny Paws, making District 6 the first City Council district to bring these critical pet services directly into the community.
Community Care Days are designed to support working families by bringing essential services together in one accessible location, helping residents save time, reduce costs, and access support closer to home.
Residents attending Community Care Days can receive assistance with:
- Utility assistance through CPS Energy and San Antonio Water System
- Spay and neuter sign-ups with the Spay Neuter Network
- SNAP benefit assistance in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank
Recognizing ongoing concerns about roaming dogs in the area, the District 6 Office has expanded services to include free microchips and vaccines for pets, provided on-site with SAACS Partner Penny Paws.
“District 6 is proud to partner with Animal Care Services to bring microchips and vaccines directly into our community,” said Councilmember Ric Galvan. “While this is a new partnership, it reflects our commitment to finding creative, collaborative solutions that meet the needs of our residents and encourage responsible pet care.”
At this time, the duration of the partnership has not yet been finalized, and District 6 is proud to pilot this collaborative model to serve community needs.
For SAACS, the District 6 Community Care Day reflects a shared commitment to practical, community-driven solutions. “This partnership is a great example of what can happen when departments and districts work together to solve real, everyday challenges for our residents,” said Animal Care Services Director Jon Gary. “We appreciate Councilman Ric Galvan’s continued leadership and District 6’s work on new approaches that make it easier for residents to care for their pets.”
Registration is required for microchips and vaccines. Spots are limited and pet owners are encouraged to register as soon as possible at the Penny Paws website.
