District 6 Distributes More Than 300 Turkeys to Local Families

Support was provided to Title 1 schools and senior centers across the district.
SAN ANTONIO (November 20, 2025) — District 6 Councilmember Ric Galvan is proud to announce a successful Thanksgiving initiative that provided 336 families and seniors with free turkeys to help them celebrate the holiday with dignity and joy.
This year, Councilmember Galvan’s office worked directly with Title I public schools throughout District 6 to support 150 students and their families. By focusing on Title I campuses, the initiative reached households where additional support can make a meaningful difference—ensuring that working families are able to share a holiday meal together.
In addition, through a continued partnership with the Gonzaba Foundation and Methodist Healthcare System, another 150 turkeys were distributed to older adults at three District 6 senior centers: Alicia Treviño, Bethel, and the Darner Senior Center. These centers serve hundreds of older adults who rely on community programs for nutrition, resources, and connection.
Councilmember Galvan extended gratitude to both partner organizations for sponsoring this year’s distribution and for providing the funding, coordination, and hands-on support needed to make the initiative possible.
“Thanksgiving is about family, gratitude, and community,” said the District 6 Councilmember. “Our goal is to make sure every family and senior in District 6 can celebrate around the table without worrying about where their meal will come from. I’m deeply thankful for our partners at Gonzaba Foundation and Methodist Healthcare System for helping us make this effort a reality.”
The District 6 team continues to work alongside local nonprofits and community partners to meet residents where they are, ensuring that support and resources reach those who need them most.
