SAN ANTONIO (December 11, 2025) – Councilmember Ric Galvan is calling on District 6 residents to participate in a new feedback effort on the proposed election reform aimed at better understanding community perspectives on this proposal.

“As it stands, I am always in favor of increasing our voter turnout, especially in our abysmally low turnout municipal elections,” said the District 6 Councilmember. “Moving our May elections to November of odd years is a step in the right direction. However, given that this move will not align our municipal elections with federal or gubernatorial elections gives pause on how much of an increased turnout we will actually see during a November odd-year election, compared to a May odd-year election. Will we be making a difference?

“In this moment, I am torn between moving forward on a proposal that has the chance to increase turnout, versus working with residents throughout the City to determine if our community wants to align our elections with federal or gubernatorial elections during even years where we know turnout will be exponentially higher. Hearing directly from our community can help us move forward together with transparency and shared purpose. Your feedback will help us make quality decisions that strengthen our local democracy.”

The initiative seeks to gather broad community feedback to determine how City Council can best craft an election reform policy that will encourage increased voter turnout in local elections. By creating more opportunities for input, the District 6 Councilmember hopes to make civic participation easier and more accessible for working families.

Residents are encouraged to participate by completing the District 6 Survey on Election Reform in English or Español.
