SAN ANTONIO (September 17, 2026) – Today, the San Antonio City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. After many months of consultation, data analysis, and deliberation, District 6 Councilmember Ric Galvan believes the Council moved forward in the best effort to ensure a safe, healthy, and sustainable city for every San Antonian to call home.

The Councilmember shared that the outcome reflects the values and priorities of working-class families in District 6. The Councilmember’s priorities focused on maintaining senior services, health services for women and families, public safety, infrastructure improvement, and worker’s wages.

Key Highlights in the FY 2027 Budget include:

  • Funding the Darner Senior Nutrition Center over the next two fiscal years.
  • Adding 9 positions for the San Antonio Fire Department and a 5% wage increase.
  • Funding new positions for San Antonio Animal Care Services’ spay/neuter and vet care.
  • Preserving Metro Health programming, including programs for children’s oral healthcare, violence intervention, and family support resources.
  • Funding services supporting maternal healthcare.
  • Increasing speed mitigation infrastructure solutions.
  • Preserving funding for San Antonio Education Partnership Scholarships, enabling thousands of San Antonio students to afford higher education

Councilmember Galvan stated, “This budget shows that even with narrow resources, we continue to stand by the needs of our residents. I remain committed to securing critical investments made to support working families. Thank you to the District 6 constituents who contacted our office, took our budget survey, or joined us at a town hall. They made their priorities clear. They want to see their tax dollars directly funding community safety, streets and sidewalks, parks and greenspaces, and quality social services. Those priorities steered my judgment in every facet of this year’s budget approval process.”
