District 5 Councilmember Hosts Community Meeting on Project Marvel

SAN ANTONIO (October 9, 2025) – On Wednesday evening, October 8, 2025, Councilmember Teri Castillo hosted a community meeting on Project Marvel to provide San Antonio residents with clarity on the proposed Spurs arena and the upcoming November ballot propositions.
The event, held in District 5, brought nearly 100 residents together, eager to learn more about the proposed $1.3 billion project and its potential impact on the community. The discussion was designed to promote transparency, accountability, and community voice in decision-making, ensuring residents feel informed and empowered before casting their votes this November.
The meeting featured a presentation by Councilmember Castillo, reviewing research that has guided the District 5 Office’s understanding of the project and highlighting key terms and commitments under consideration.
Attendees also heard from speakers representing diverse perspectives on Project Marvel, including Dr. Heywood T. Sanders, Professor Emeritus of Public Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio; Bobby Perez, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for Spurs Sports & Entertainment; City Manager Erik Walsh; and Chief Financial Officer of San Antonio, Ben Gorzell.
Community members engaged in a Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions about financing, public benefits, and long-term community impact. “Our goal was to ensure that residents have access to clear, factual information before heading to the polls,” said Councilmember Castillo. “San Antonians deserve transparency and the opportunity to make an informed decision about an investment of this scale.”
