SAN ANTONIO (August 1, 2023) — Councilwoman Viagran in partnership with Harlandale ISD kicked off the new school year with a successful back-to-school event providing more than 2,000 free backpacks filled with supplies this past Saturday.

Students, parents, and community members attended this fun event, which celebrated the return of Harlandale ISD students, and was filled with laughter and valuable connections.

The community fosters an inclusive environment where learning is promoted and relationships are nurtured. Along with backpacks and supplies, students were able to receive immunizations and free haircuts alongside community vendors.

“Back-to-school events are crucial for students' success,” said the Councilwoman. “By partnering with organizations, we ensure every child has the tools they need to thrive in the classroom. Preparing students for success is a community effort, and we empower their journey to greatness together. As a former educator, I'm committed to providing support to families in need. Together, we equip our students for a brighter future on day one."
