SAN ANTONIO (February 6, 2025) – District 3 Councilmember Phyllis Viagran invites the community to the 2nd Southside Focused Sustainability Symposium on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Auditorium. The event will be moderated by the District 3 Councilmember and Texas A&M University’s Dr. Daher Bassel.

The symposium will bring together leaders, experts, and passionate advocates from the health, environmental, economic, and educational sectors to help us understand where we are and where we need to go. Through dynamic panel discussions, attendees will explore urgent topics including soil health, food security, transportation infrastructure, renewable energy, and more.

"Today, the Southside faces so many challenges that cannot be ignored, from limited access to resources, healthcare, and sustainable infrastructure," the Councilmember shared. "This symposium is an opportunity for all of us to talk about how we can create real solutions that ensure no community, especially the Southside, is left behind in the pursuit of a more sustainable and equitable San Antonio."

This event is more than just a meeting—it’s an opportunity to come together, share ideas, and act for the betterment of our Southside community.

Keynote Speakers:

  • Mayor Ron Nirenberg: The Mayor will provide his vision for San Antonio’s sustainable future, emphasizing the importance of strategic investment in the city's growth.
  • First Lady Erica Prosper: In her special remarks, First Lady Prosper will highlight her passion for community development and her commitment to advancing initiatives that support the city’s well-being.

The Councilmember encourages all interested parties to RSVP and join in these critical conversations to support a more sustainable and equitable future for the Southside and all of San Antonio.
