Applications are now open for the annual cohort of the Legacy Leadership Initiative

SAN ANTONIO (November 19, 2025) — The District 3 Office is proud to launch the 13th annual cohort of the District 3 Legacy Leadership Initiative (LLI). This is a transformative six-month leadership program shaping the next generation of Southside leaders. For more than a decade, LLI has empowered young people with the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to create positive change in their community.

Throughout the program, students participate in meaningful, hands-on service projects that make a real impact in District 3. A signature experience each year is their participation in Basura Bash, where students clean the river, plant trees, and learn firsthand the importance of environmental stewardship. These projects help strengthen civic responsibility while instilling pride in making the Southside a cleaner, greener, and stronger place for all.

“We are incredibly proud of all the young people who have participated in the District 3 Legacy Leadership Initiative over the past 12 years,” said Councilmember Viagran. “Their passion and hard work are what make this program so successful. I can’t wait to see the continued impact our alumni will have as they grow into leaders in our community and beyond.”

Alumni of the LLI have achieved remarkable milestones, such as acceptance into Ivy League universities, participation in Department of Defense research programs, full-ride scholarships to universities, and careers in public service, including roles within City Council. Their success showcases how LLI serves as a powerful launching pad for young leaders across the Southside.

Students interested in becoming part of the 2026 cohort are encouraged to apply. Applications close on Friday November 28, at 11:59 p.m.
