District 3 Councilmember Issues Statement and Outlines the Importance of Voting
SAN ANTONIO (January 23, 2026) — Yesterday, a special session was requested to brief the community and City Council on the San Antonio Police Department’s cooperation with federal agencies. Councilmember Phyllis Viagran issued the following statement.
“Public comment is powerful. Advocacy is essential. I challenge San Antonians to take the next step. Check your voter registration, show up at the ballot box, and let your voice shape the future of Texas and this country.
“We are living in a moment of deep national tension around immigration enforcement, public safety, and civil rights. San Antonio is not immune to these realities, and our community is feeling the weight of them. If we want specific outcomes on immigration policy, enforcement priorities, and civil rights, we must participate in the elections that determine who holds power.
“The upcoming midterm primary election will decide which candidates move forward to November and who will ultimately make decisions at both the state and federal level. Regardless of your position, your vote is important. The voter registration deadline is February 2, 2026.
“If you are not registered, you cannot vote, no matter how passionate or informed you are. Together, San Antonio can make a difference. Register to vote at the Bexar County website.”
