District 2 Councilmember Celebrates Approval of Funding for Community Center and Park

SAN ANTONIO (March 5, 2026) —Today, the San Antonio City Council approved an ordinance authorizing funding in an amount up to $2,000,000 for the design of a multi-generational community center and park. The site will also include an affordable housing development. This is a great milestone towards expanding community resources and recreational opportunities for residents in District 2.

This project, located at the intersection of Eisenhauer Road and Midcrown Drive, was initiated in partnership with the San Antonio Housing Trust, which received a grant from the Inner City Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) #11 to purchase the 8.6-acre property. The San Antonio Housing Trust, the City’s Neighborhood and Housing Services, and Borderless Studios held community engagement sessions, conducted surveys and hosted workshops to determine the best use for the property. Development of the park space will mark another step towards Councilmember McKee-Rodriguez’s goal to build eight new parks in District 2.

“This is a pivotal moment for our District,” said the Councilmember. “With the increased industrialization of our community, it is clear there is a need for more green space and community resources. The northeast side of my district has limited access to city facilities and resources, and this development will allow for the recreational opportunity our neighbors have been asking for.

“Over the past several years, as I’ve driven along this corridor, the number of warehouses and industrial facilities has grown, replacing valuable opportunities for green space. It is an honor to have facilitated the acquisition of this property and to prepare a shovel-ready project that will yield tangible benefits for a community that has long felt neglected. “We’re so excited to have made it this far and to see this project moving forward.”

Next steps include the release of a solicitation for the architectural design.
