D2 Councilmember’s Statement Following Gunfire Outside Eastside Office
Published on August 06, 2026
SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2026) — Councilmember McKee-Rodriguez issued the following statement following an altercation that resulted in gunfire outside his field office:
“Earlier today, a shooting occurred outside my eastside field office following an altercation nearby. I am deeply grateful that no members of my staff, visitors to our office, or the children impacted by the incident suffered serious injuries. My thoughts are with everyone affected, including the individual who was grazed by gunfire, and am thankful for the swift response of the San Antonio Police Department and first responders.
The safety of our team and everyone who visits our office is my highest priority. We will be reviewing and strengthening security measures at our field office, and team members who witnessed today’s events will have tomorrow off, at minimum, while we connect them with the resources and support they need.
This incident is also a painful reminder that public safety requires more than reacting after violence occurs. We must continue investing in violence interruption, mental health services, youth opportunities, conflict resolution, and other proven strategies that address the root causes of violence while ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to keep our community safe.
Our office will continue working closely with law enforcement as their investigation continues, and we remain committed to building a District 2 where every resident, family, and employee feels safe.”
