District 10 Councilmember Opposes Property Tax Increases, Prioritizes Public Safety

SAN ANTONIO (June 27, 2025) – Following today's City Council budget goal-setting session, Councilmember Whyte shared that he would firmly reject any property tax rate increases to address the City's budget deficit.

“San Antonio families are already struggling with rising costs,” the Councilmember said. “Under no circumstances will I support raising their tax burden. Instead of reaching deeper into residents' pockets, we must prioritize core city government functions. True leadership means making tough choices while respecting taxpayers' wallets. We must focus on keeping citizens safe, improving infrastructure, and strengthening neighborhoods without burdening families.”

Councilmember Whyte continued his support for three key budget priorities:

  • Public Safety: Enhanced funding for police hiring and emergency services.
  • Infrastructure: Critical investments in roads and water systems.
  • Code Enforcement: Protecting property values and neighborhood standards.

Councilmember Whyte will continue working with City staff to identify efficiencies and alternative revenue sources that don't increase taxes on San Antonio residents.
