District 10 Councilmember Calls for Transparency and Accountability Ahead of Proposed San Antonio Water System Rate Increase

SAN ANTONIO (February 5, 2026) – During Wednesday’s B Session, City Council received a briefing from San Antonio Water System (SAWS) regarding a proposed future adjustment to water and wastewater rates. Councilmember Whyte, who co-authored a memorandum requesting a SAWS efficiency review, emphasized the importance of an independent financial/performance review, a ratepayer impact and affordability analysis, and capital program transparency and reporting.

The Councilmember stated, “As elected officials, we must hold SAWS accountable. San Antonians deserve confidence that their utility dollars are being managed responsibly and efficiently before being asked to pay more. Transparency and accountability are non-negotiables when it comes to our residents’ dollars.”
