District 1 to Host Virtual Town Hall on Immigrant and Citizen Rights Amid Community Concerns

SAN ANTONIO (March 4, 2026) – In response to growing community concerns about reported presence by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in San Antonio, District 1 Councilmember Sukh Kaur will host a virtual town hall to provide clear, accurate information about the rights of immigrants and citizens if approached by law enforcement.

The virtual Know Your Rights Town Hall is free and will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 5. Those who want to participate should register online. Information will be shared in both English and Spanish.

The event will connect residents with trusted immigration attorneys and community advocates to ensure families understand their constitutional rights, such as what to do when interacting with immigration officials, whether in questioning or if in detention.

“Our community deserves factual information and reassurance during moments of uncertainty,” said Councilmember Kaur. “This town hall is about empowering residents with knowledge, protecting families, and ensuring everyone understands their rights under the law.”

The event, which was first suggested by a District 1 resident, is made possible due to the District 1 Office’s collaboration with expert organizations, including SA Stands ACLU of Texas, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, and American Gateways.
