SAN ANTONIO (November 16, 2023) – The City of San Antonio’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission (MLK Commission), in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Department, has extended the deadline for submissions for the ninth annual Student Art Contest. The new deadline to submit is Monday, November 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. CST.

Bexar County youth (ages 18 and under) are encouraged to create original artwork that is inspired by the 2024 theme of “Yesterday’s Dream, Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Reality.” The selected artwork will be used on marketing materials to promote the 2024 March and Commemoration, which will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024. All contest guidelines and instructions can be found at SA.gov/MLK.

The contest accepts any traditional two-dimensional artistic media including paintings, photography, computer graphics and artwork created with colored pencils, markers and crayons. A panel of judges will review entries and determine the winner based on concept, artistic imagery, visual presentation and originality of the piece.

Since 1987, the City of San Antonio has celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an annual series of events leading up to one of the largest marches in the country.
