Texas artist’s work will be on display through August

SAN ANTONIO (June 13, 2023) – The San Antonio Public Library is hosting a retrospective exhibit of large-scale ceramic sculptures and a selection of paintings by San Antonio-based artist Danville Chadbourne. The exhibition, titled “Danville Chadbourne Sculptures and Paintings” opens Tuesday June 13 at the Central Library Gallery and will be on display through the end of August.

Known widely for his sculptures made of clay and wood, Chadbourne works in a range of materials and in both two and three-dimensional formats. Over the years, he has created a complex body of work unified by a primal iconography and artifact-like quality. He has lived in San Antonio, Texas since 1979.

Chadbourne, who was born in Bryan, Texas in 1949, has shown his work extensively in solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and the United States since the early 1970s including over 100 one-person exhibitions. His work is also included in numerous public and private collections. "Danville Chadbourne Paintings and Sculptures” at the Central Library Gallery marks the first time some of Chadbourne’s art works have returned home to San Antonio in many years.

An opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Tuesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. in the Central Library Gallery.
