D9 Councilwoman Supports San Antonio Police Officers’ Agreement

SAN ANTONIO(September 11, 2026) — Councilwoman Misty Spears voiced her support yesterday for the City of San Antonio’s three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, calling the agreement an important step toward strengthening San Antonio’s police force and keeping residents safe.

The agreement, which runs from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2029, was approved by 61% of San Antonio police officers who voted on the agreement.

“Public safety is my number one priority, and that starts with supporting the men and women who put their lives on the line for our community,” said Councilwoman Misty Spears. “If we expect our officers to protect us, we have to make sure we are giving them the support, pay and resources they need to do their jobs and stay in this profession.”

Officers will receive a 16.5% wage increase over the three years, along with increased shift differential and new weekend differential pay. The agreement also includes changes to better align patrol staffing with call demand and improve disciplinary procedures. These measures will help San Antonio recruit and retain qualified officers while strengthening the department’s ability to serve our community.

“We cannot talk about public safety without talking about the strength of our police department,” the District 9 Councilwoman said. “Recruiting good officers is important, and retaining them is just as important. We need experienced officers on our streets, in our neighborhoods and responding when our residents need help.”

The District 9 Councilwoman also serves as a representative for police and fire on the pension and healthcare fund boards. Her work on those boards has reinforced the importance of maintaining a strong and sustainable benefits system for San Antonio’s first responders.

“This is about more than a contract,” the District 9 Councilwoman said. “This is about making sure San Antonio has a police department that is equipped to serve our growing city today and into the future. I will continue fighting for the resources our officers need and for the safe neighborhoods our residents deserve.”
