D9 Councilwoman Outlines Path Forward After Public Safety Town Hall

Public safety remains the top priority for District 9.

SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2026) — Councilwoman Misty Spears hosted a District 9 Public Safety Town Hall on Tuesday, August 4, bringing together Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame, Representative Mark Dorazio, a representative from Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones' Office, Commissioner Grant Moody, Sheriff Javier Salazar, and Constable Mark Vojvodich.

Residents spoke directly with public safety leaders about neighborhood concerns, crime trends, and the importance of accountability and open communication.

"Thank you to everyone who showed up and made their voices heard," said Councilwoman Spears. "District 9 residents want safer neighborhoods, stronger public safety, and leadership that acts, not just talks. Tonight's conversation reinforced what I've heard across our community: public safety remains the top priority, and I will continue working to ensure District 9 families have the resources, visibility, and proactive policing they deserve."

The meeting concluded with a clear commitment to action. Councilwoman Spears pledged to remain engaged with local, county, and state officials to strengthen neighborhood safety and advocate for the resources District 9 needs. She also highlighted the need for a District 9 police substation, noting that SAPD's Facilities Assessment identified the North Side as the next priority for a future substation. "More officers and stronger police infrastructure are part of the solution," the District 9 Councilwoman said.

"My commitment is clear: fight for more officers, secure a District 9 police substation, and provide the staffing and equipmentneeded to keep District 9 families safe," said the District 9 Councilwoman.

She made it clear that the conversation does not end with the town hall. Her office will continue working with public safety partners, prioritizing concerns identified by residents, and keeping the community informed as those commitments are turned into action.
