SAN ANTONIO (September 11, 2026) — Councilwoman Misty Spears congratulates Jesse Salame on his appointment as the next Chief of the San Antonio Police Department.

With 27 years of service to SAPD, Chief Salame has extensive experience and a strong understanding of what it takes to lead a modern police department. Councilwoman Spears also highlighted Chief Salame’s focus on holistic officer wellness, emphasizing that supporting the physical, mental, and overall well-being of the men and women who serve our community is essential to building a strong police department.

The District 9 Councilwoman is confident these qualities will serve SAPD well as Chief Salame takes on this new leadership role, strengthening the department and building trust throughout the community.

“I look forward to working with Chief Salame and making sure our officers have the support and resources they need to keep our families and our community safe. Congratulations, Chief Salame, and thank you for your commitment to serving San Antonio.”
