SAN ANTONIO (October 15, 2026) – Last year Councilmember Galvan introduced a Council Consideration Request (CCR) calling for a comprehensive review of data center growth and its potential impact on the city’s natural resources and infrastructure. Since then, the Department of Development Services (DSD) held a series of stakeholder meetings to gather input on changing the City’s Unified Development Code (UDC) related to data centers.

DSD presented two proposals for changing the UDC to address data center construction, including a proposal to require that all data centers be granted a Specific Use Authorization zoning designation that would give the City Council the opportunity to vote on every proposed data center in San Antonio. The proposals will come before the Zoning Commission at a public hearing on October 20, 2026, and for a final vote by City Council on October 29, 2026. Community members can sign up to provide public comment at both meetings.

“The residents of San Antonio deserve to have a say in where and how data centers are built in our city,” stated Councilmember Galvan. “All new data centers within city limits should require a vote by City Council. This is the only way to ensure that our community has a meaningful voice in data center development in San Antonio.”
