SAN ANTONIO- Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on September 25, 2026. Below is a brief synopsis:

At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a male armed with a shotgun inside a bag at a convenience store. Officers located the suspect approximately a block away and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect pulled away and moved to a parking lot near the front door of a bar while holding the bag in a manner indicating he was holding and pointing a shotgun. Additional officers were requested to the location. Officers attempted to communicate with the suspect for approximately 20 minutes and gave commands to drop the bag, but the suspect did not comply. At one point the suspect racked the slide of the shotgun and multiple officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect. A shotgun was recovered next to the suspect. Life-saving measures were performed on the male, and he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No officers or bystanders were injured. The 29-year-old suspect, Michael Angel Roque, was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.

The officers involved have between 3 months and 9.5 years of service. They have been placed on administrative duty until further notice. The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate but concurrent investigations. The findings will be forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s office for an independent review.
