SAN ANTONIO (June 18, 2024) – Consistent with our critical incident video release procedure, SAPD released the body camera video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 19, 2024, in the 17800 Block of La Cantera Terrace.

Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:

Just after 7:00 pm, officers were dispatched to a narcotics call at the 17800 block of La Cantera Terrace. Upon arrival, officers in marked patrol vehicles were alerted of a stolen vehicle by the in-car Axon License Plate Reader. One officer parked his patrol vehicle behind the unoccupied stolen vehicle to prevent it from leaving while he investigated the initial narcotics call. While walking to the call, the officers noticed a suspect enter the stolen vehicle and redirected their attention to the suspect and ran towards the stolen vehicle. Officers called out to the suspect when he drove the vehicle over the curb and onto the grass in the direction of the officers and a civilian who was walking her dog. Both officers fired multiple rounds at the stolen suspect vehicle, striking the suspect once. EMS transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. The suspect was identified as 21 year-old, Angel Cuevas (SID: 1139414). Both officers involved have 8 months of service: Officer Travis Maxwell #1841 and Officer Daniel Garcia #1325.

As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident.
