The Next Crime Scene Is Always "Somebody Else's Neighborhood" - Until It Isn't.
SAN ANTONIO (July 27, 2026) – Following recent criminal activity in the Champions Run neighborhood and the recent shooting in Stone Oak, Councilwoman Misty Spears announced today that she will be calling for an in-depth public safety review of District 9.
“The next crime scene is always somebody else's neighborhood – until it isn't,” Spears said. “That's why we never stop working to stay ahead of crime.”
Over the coming days, Spears will engage San Antonio Police Department leadership, City staff, neighborhood associations, and residents to evaluate recent criminal activity and identify opportunities to strengthen public safety throughout District 9. Councilwoman Spears will advocate for a review that includes:
- A review of recent crime trends across District 9 to identify emerging patterns.
- An evaluation of patrol deployment and visibility in neighborhoods and commercial areas.
- Meetings with neighborhood leaders and HOA representatives to gather resident concerns and recommendations.
- An assessment of crime prevention tools and technologies that can better protect neighborhoods.
- Recommendations for additional resources or policy changes that strengthen public safety across District 9.
Spears said recent events serve as a reminder that every neighborhood deserves continuous attention when it comes to public safety. “Crime doesn't care about ZIP codes or how you voted in the last election,” Spears said. “Leadership shouldn't either."
Councilwoman Spears said she will continue working with residents, law enforcement, and City leadership to ensure District 9 remains proactive in addressing public safety challenges.
“Government's first responsibility is protecting its people,” Spears said. “As the representative for District 9, I'll continue pushing for the tools, resources, and partnerships needed to keep our neighborhoods safe."
