The team is recognized with a certificate of congratulations for winning the 2026 American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

SAN ANTONIO (June 25, 2026) – Today, Councilmembers Ivalis Meza Gonzalez (District 8) and Marc Whyte (District 10) honored the UTSA Women’s Basketball team and Head Coach Karen Aston with a City Council certificate of congratulations recognizing their 2026 American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship—the program’s first conference title since 2009 and third in program history. Coach Aston became the 15th coach in NCAA Division I Tournament history to take three different programs to the tournament.

The Roadrunners won four games in four days as the six seed, becoming the only program in NCAA Division I basketball to beat their conference’s top three teams to claim the title. Senior Cheyenne Rowe was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, averaging 16.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Both senior Ereauna Hardaway and junior Idara Udo earned All-Tournament honors.

“What this team accomplished was special,” said Councilman Whyte. “Beating the top three best teams in the conference as a six seed, going four games in four days, and punching a ticket to the NCAA Tournament—that’s the product of hard work, great coaching, and excellent teamwork. Way to make San Antonio proud.”

“As the home of UTSA in District 8, we are proud to celebrate the Roadrunners Women's Basketball team and Coach Karen Aston for this historic championship,” said Councilmember Meza Gonzalez. “We value our strong partnership with UTSA and congratulate these outstanding student-athletes for representing San Antonio with excellence, determination, and heart.”
