Councilmember Ric Galvan Joins Animal Care Services in Support of Hill Country Flood Response Efforts
SAN ANTONIO (July 10, 2025) – Councilmember Ric Galvan and his District 6 Office rolled up their sleeves today to volunteer alongside San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS), showing firsthand what it means to step up in a time of need.
In the wake of devastating flooding in the Hill Country, San Antonio Animal Care Services took in animals from the Williamson County Animal Shelter to make room for displaced pets needing to be reunited with their families. The District 6 Office joined SAACS staff to help care for the transferred pets, support local shelter operations, and highlight the importance of continued community involvement.
“Today was a powerful reminder of what community really means,” Councilmember Galvan said. “San Antonio came together to support not just our own local shelter, but also the families and animals impacted in the Hill Country. This is the kind of collaboration and compassion we need more of.”
As the local shelter steps up to meet increased needs, District 6 residents are encouraged to support SAACS and local animal rescue nonprofits through monetary donations or by becoming foster caregivers. Every foster home creates space for another pet to be saved.
“Compassion is always amplified with collaboration, and we enjoyed working side by side with District 6 today to help these dogs and cats in need,” SAACS Director Jonathan Gary said. “While San Antonio pets will always be our first priority, we are proud to work with volunteers in our community who step up in times of crisis."
SAACS plays a critical role in the community, and continued public support ensures they can respond quickly when emergencies arise, whether local or regional.
