Councilmember Reaffirms Flood Mitigation Efforts in District 6

SAN ANTONIO (July 16, 2026) – Following several days of heavy rainfall across San Antonio, Councilmember Ric Galvan is reaffirming his commitment to address flooding concerns in District 6 by continuing to work alongside City departments and regional partners to identify both immediate and long-term flood mitigation solutions.
District 6 has several areas that experience recurring flooding during significant rain events, including Old Grissom Road, Pinn Road, Dhaka View and Heath Road, and West Commerce. The District 6 Office continues to work with the Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Department and the San Antonio River Authority to evaluate current conditions, advance planned infrastructure improvements, and explore additional opportunities to better protect neighborhoods.
“With the past few weeks of heavy rainfall, for many District 6 residents the concern isn't just the weather—it's whether their neighborhood will flood,” said Councilmember Ric Galvan. “For major flooding areas such as Old Grissom Road, Pinn Road, Dhaka View and Heath Road, and West Commerce, our team is looking at how upcoming bond projects can address these issues most effectively. Our neighborhoods deserve strategic impactful solutions, not patchwork. My commitment is to continue working with our City departments and the San Antonio River Authority to identify both short-term and long-term efforts while keeping residents informed of our progress. We may not be able to solve these challenges overnight, but you have a commitment that we will continue advocating for the improvements our community deserves."
Several flood mitigation projects are already in various stages of planning and design through previously approved bond funding. While large-scale infrastructure improvements require extensive planning and construction timelines, the District 6 Office will continue advocating for additional funding opportunities and project coordination to address areas experiencing repeated flooding.
