Councilmember Approves $4.4 Billion Balanced City Budget Adoption

The Councilmember highlights investments in District 3.

SAN ANTONIO (September 17, 2026) – Councilmember Phyllis Viagran announced her support for the City of San Antonio’s adoption of a $4.4 billion balanced budget, following months of collaboration, public input, and difficult financial decisions. 

The adopted budget includes significant investments in District 3, including:

• Infrastructure management programs and street improvements
• Fire station replacements and public safety initiatives
• Affordable housing, houseless services and encampment cleanup
• City employee compensation, City programs and City buildings

“This has been a difficult budget process. Today marks the culmination of months of hard work by City Council, the City Budget Office, and every City Department that helped shape a $4.4 billion budget that protects our core services, invests in our neighborhoods, and reflects the collective priorities of District 3 and residents across San Antonio.

“Over the past several months, I had the opportunity to meet with 15 organizations that were at risk of losing City funding. Those conversations were important because these organizations provide services our residents rely on every day and are an important part of our community’s support system. Also recognizing COPS Metro, our many Chambers of Commerce, Centro San Antonio, and the advocates who understand the importance of protecting programs like Ready to Work and the role they play in our city’s economic future.

“Investing in workforce development gives San Antonians the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, while helping us build a strong pipeline of skilled workers prepared to meet the needs of new and growing businesses. These partnerships matter, but so does the voice of our community.

“Throughout this process, our goal was to establish a clear policy direction that serves as a roadmap for service priorities across all 10 Council Districts. None of this work could have been done without the residents and neighborhood associations of District 3, who shared their priorities, concerns, and ideas throughout the process. Your voices helped shape this budget, and we are proud to see those needs and concerns reflected in the budget before us today.

“Passing a balanced budget is critical to moving our city forward, protecting vital services, and ensuring there are no disruptions to the daily operations our community depends on. I am proud to support this budget and the continued progress it represents for San Antonio and, especially, for District 3.”
