Council Approves Community Advisory Committee

It will guide public input on the proposed Downtown Sports & Entertainment District.

SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2026) – During today’s A-Session, City Council approved the creation of a Community Advisory Committee to guide public input on the proposed Downtown Sports & Entertainment District, including how the City allocates $75 million in community benefits funding from Spurs Sports & Entertainment over 30 years.

Councilman Whyte voted in favor of the resolution, stating, “75 million dollars is a big commitment, and it should come with the community's input on how it's spent. This committee gives District 10 a real voice in that conversation, and I'm glad to have supported it.”

The committee will have up to 33 members: three appointed by each council district and three by the Mayor. Membership is required to include the artist community, labor organizations, small businesses, and neighborhood and community groups.

The $75 million commitment is tied to the Term Sheet the City signed with Spurs Sports & Entertainment for a new downtown arena.
