Comedian and Author Paul Scheer to Headline Pop Madness

SAN ANTONIO (February 27, 2025) – Author, comedian, and podcast host Paul Scheer will headline an impressive lineup of artists and special guests at this year’s Pop Madness®. This free pop culture convention and celebration of all things fandom will also feature activities for all ages and a curated selection of exhibitors. Pop Madness® will be held at Central Library (600 Soledad St., 78205) on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the event is free and parking in the Central Library Garage is free for up to three hours.
Scheer is well known for his roles in film and television, including Black Monday, 30 Rock, Veep, and The League. He co-hosts the podcast How Did This Get Made? alongside his wife, actor June Diane Raphael and actor Jason Mantzoukas. Scheer will participate in a panel discussion in the Central Library Auditorium at noon followed by a book signing at 1:30. Scheer’s memoir, Joyful Recollections of Trauma, was released in 2024 to critical acclaim.
Now in its eighth year as San Antonio’s premiere free pop culture convention, Pop Madness® brings together fans from a diverse variety of fandoms while celebrating authors, artists, and content creators of all types. This year’s Pop Madness® will also feature authors Celso Hurtado, Kazu Kibuishi, and Ehigbor Okosun, and artists John Picacio, Jackdaw Russell, and Wes Hartman. Oli Pettigrew, who runs the popular “That Englishman in Texas” social media accounts will headline this year’s media guests.
The all-ages event will feature a variety of activities including film screenings, escape rooms, and the popular Pop Madness®cosplay contests. For the first time this year the Library will host a cosplay contest for tweens (ages 9-12) in addition to the teen and adult contests. Attendees wishing to participate in the cosplay contests are encouraged to pre-register online.
Families attending Pop Madness can participate in Pokemon Loteria and Pokemon Go Battle League tournaments, plus join in an Al’s Bubble Fun House party in the Children’s Library. The Children’s Library will also offer special escape rooms designed for families with children.
