SAN ANTONIO (JUNE 17, 2025) – In response to the devastating storms and flooding on June 11 and 12, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County have issued a joint disaster declaration.

The severe weather resulted in the tragic loss of 13 lives, widespread power outages, and significant damage to streets, drainage systems, and other critical infrastructure. In light of the extensive damage and the concern of future heavy rainfall and flooding, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and County Judge Peter Sakai have formally requested state assistance from the Governor’s Office.

This declaration is sought primarily for the State to evaluate if this disaster, along with other impacted cities and counties in the State, qualify to request federal assistance for the process of recovery. The City and County are specifically seeking state support to assist with cleanup, infrastructure stabilization, and recovery operations.

“The magnitude of this disaster requires state-level support,” Mayor Nirenberg said. “Our community is resilient, but we cannot do this alone.”

The City and County are also asking the Governor to issue successive declarations as needed for potential future storms that may impact the San Antonio area.

“In the aftermath of the unprecedented storms that resulted in the tragic loss of 13 lives,” Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai said, “we are taking action to ensure that we have the necessary resources for our community’s recovery.”

Once the State declares a disaster, the Governor will make a request for federal assistance.
