City Seeks Applicants for District 2 City Council Temporary Vacancy

SAN ANTONIO (May 16, 2025) – As a result of Councilmember McKee-Rodriguez’s election to take two months of parental leave, there will be a temporary vacancy in City Council District 2 for the period of August 1 through September 30, 2025, or until the Councilmember returns. The City of San Antonio invites applicants to temporarily fill the District 2 City Council position for the duration of this vacancy. The deadline to submit applications and all required documents is Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 12 p.m. to the Office of the City Clerk at City Tower. All applicants must meet the following requirements to hold office:

• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be a qualified voter of the City of San Antonio and District 2 upon filing the Application.  
• Must have resided in San Antonio, Texas, continuously for at least one year prior to applying. 
• Must have resided in the council district at least six months prior to applying and must continue to do so during the term of office. 
• Must not have been determined mentally incapacitated by a final judgment of a court.
• Must not have been finally convicted of a felony unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities. Successful completion of probation or parole does not make a convicted felon eligible to hold an elected office.

Timeline:

• May 19, 2025, at 8 a.m.: The Office of the City Clerk will begin accepting applications.
• June 3, 2025, at 12 p.m. (noon): Applications must be received by the City Clerk by 12 p.m. (noon).
• June 11, 2025: Applicants will be interviewed in person during the Council Special Session. City Council will select no more than 3 finalists. 
• June 12, 2025: City Council will interview the final Applicants and select the Interim Councilmember at A session. The Interim Councilmember will be officially sworn in. 
• August 1, 2025: The Interim Councilmember will take their official seat.
