SAN ANTONIO (November 1, 2025) – The City of San Antonio unveiled its new Municipal Archives Museum located at the Municipal Archives & Records Center, 719 S. Santa Rosa. The museum offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the rich history of San Antonio’s municipal government through preserved documents, photographs, artifacts, and multimedia exhibits dating back over 300 years.
“The Municipal Archives Museum is more than a collection of historical records,” said City Clerk Debbie Racca-Sittre. “It is a vibrant space where the community can connect with the legacy of civic service, government transparency, and the growth of our great city.”
During its inaugural exhibition, featured items include a hand carved City Seal created by Johannes C. Scholze, master woodcarver and furniture designer, in 1925; 1818 San Fernando de Béxar City Council minutes; an 1849 survey map of Samuel A. Maverick’s land holdings in downtown San Antonio, which includes the Alamo; and lyrics and album of the city song “San Antonio, Ciudad de Encantos;” among many more historical items.
The museum will be open by appointment only during weekdays at no cost. To schedule a visit or to learn more, visit SA.gov/Clerk.
