City of San Antonio Celebrates National Public Health Week 2025
Published on April 08, 2025
SAN ANTONIO (April 8, 2025) – The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is proud to join communities nationwide in celebrating National Public Health Week (NPHW) from April 7-13, 2025. This annual event highlights the vital role of public health in building healthier communities through collaboration and advocacy.
Join Metro Health and the American Public Health Association (APHA) in celebrating 30 years of NPHW. Metro Health works with area partners and local policymakers to drive impactful community-based initiatives. “Public health is a collective effort,” said Dr. Claude A. Jacob, Director of Metro Health. “This week, we celebrate our progress, work to overcome our ongoing challenges and renew our commitment to a healthier San Antonio.”
Since its inception in 1995, NPHW has championed health equity, improved community well-being, and advanced policies that promote and protect public health. This year’s theme, “Public Health: It Starts Here,” underscores the importance of public health in everyday life.
To mark this milestone, Metro Health invites the community to reflect on three decades of progress by applying evidence-based approaches. Public health acts as an “invisible shield” by preventing disease spread through measures like vaccinations and sanitation, promoting safer environments with clean air, water, food and strengthening community resilience during crises.
