Interactive tool helps residents understand severe crash patterns and supports the City’s new “Keep Crossings SAfe” campaign.

SAN ANTONIO (December 4, 2025) — The City of San Antonio Transportation Department today launched its new High-Injury Network (HIN) Dashboard, an interactive online tool that allows residents, planners, and community partners to explore where severe and fatal crashes are occurring across the city, and how they impact people walking, bicycling, and driving.

The dashboard provides a transparent, easy-to-navigate view of the High-Injury Network: the small percentage of streets in San Antonio where a disproportionate share of serious injuries and fatalities take place. With just a few clicks, residents can locate high-injury corridors in their Council Districts, neighborhoods, and frequently traveled routes, helping them better understand local safety concerns.

“As we continue our work to build safer streets, this dashboard offers residents an unprecedented level of visibility into where the most serious crashes occur,” said Catherine “Cat” Hernandez, Transportation Director. “It also gives us another way to support and amplify our ‘Keep Crossings SAfe’ campaign by showing why reducing dangerous behaviors at crosswalks and intersections is so critical.”

Supporting the ‘Keep Crossings SAfe’ Campaign

In November, the Transportation Department launched Keep Crossings SAfe,” a citywide awareness campaign focused on improving safety at intersections and crosswalks — the very locations where many severe pedestrian crashes occur.

The new HIN Dashboard enhances this effort by:

  • Highlighting intersections and corridors with the highest rates of severe crashes. This reinforces where safer behavior can have the greatest impact.
  • Helping residents visualize how dangerous a crossing can be. This increases awareness of the importance of yielding, slowing down, and staying alert.

Key Features of the HIN Dashboard

  • Interactive Mapping: Explore the High-Injury Network at the street level, with filters for Council Districts and the ability to zoom in on local neighborhoods.
  • Crash Severity Insights: View detailed data showing who is most affected — pedestrians, bicyclists, or drivers — and how severe the collisions are.
  • Transparency and Community Engagement: Supports meaningful dialogue between residents and City staff by making safety data clear and accessible.
  • Vision Zero Alignment: Reinforces the City’s commitment to eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries through data-driven strategies.

“This tool goes hand in hand with our safety campaign outreach,” said Hernandez. “By making crash data easy to understand, we’re helping residents see firsthand why efforts like ‘Keep Crossings SAfe’ matter, and how small behavior changes can save lives in San Antonio.”

The High-Injury Network Dashboard is now available to the public.
