Events Recognizing Collective Commitment to Fair Housing Rights

SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2025) – April marks Fair Housing Month, a time to honor the legacy of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and recommit to the ongoing work of ensuring equitable access to housing. This month celebrates the strides that have been made in combating housing discrimination and promoting inclusive communities.

The City of San Antonio Neighborhood & Housing Services Department’s (NHSD) Fair Housing Program, a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, is proud to serve the San Antonio community. The department provides support in:

  • Tenant/Landlord Mediation
  • Mortgage Counseling
  • Discrimination Complaint Assistance
  • Community Outreach & Education

All efforts are aimed at maintaining and improving housing stability for residents across our city.

On April 9, the San Antonio Apartment Association hosted a Fair Housing Symposium to provide a day for renters, housing providers and advocates to stay updated on fair housing concerns. City Council also issued a Fair Housing Month Proclamation for the City of San Antonio recognizing the importance of equity in housing access and stability.

The celebration continues with the 2025 RentWise SA: Know Your Rights & Responsibilities Info Sessions this weekend. This session will occur on Saturday, April 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at 2222 N Alamo St. During this event, the City will share essential information about local, state, and federal fair housing laws, tenants’ rights, and available housing resources, in collaboration with Fair Housing South Texas. American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish interpretation services will be available for attendees.

Videos about fair housing laws are available in English, ASL and Spanish at SA.gov/TenantsRights. Topics include Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance, Repair, Requests and Healthy Living Conditions, Disability and Language Access, Discrimination and Retaliation, and Family and Domestic Violence: Safely Ending Your Lease.

NHSD invites all residents to join in celebrating Fair Housing Month and learning more about rights and responsibilities by visiting SA.gov/NHSD.
