SAN ANTONIO (July 6, 2026) – The City of San Antonio Department of Resilience and Sustainability (DRS) will continue its Low-Income E-Bike Rebate Program, funded through the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG).

Launched in March 2025 to expand access to affordable, low-emission transportation, the program provides eligible residents with financial assistance toward the purchase of electric bicycles (e-bikes). The program supports the City’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and increasing mobility options for underserved communities.

Following a DOE-approved budget revision in September 2025, the DRS secured an additional $181,000 to continue the program. The first iteration of the program granted 244 e-bike vouchers worth $244,000 in program-based funding. The next application cycle opens for one month beginning on July 14, 2026, and will provide 181 additional $1,000 vouchers. Applications will be available online in both English and Spanish at the program website.

Eligible recipients will be selected through a random lottery to be conducted in September. Selected recipients will be notified by email. Through the program, e-bike prices begin near $1,000, allowing most participants to obtain an e-bike by paying only applicable sales tax.

In collaboration with regional organizations, including the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, this effort also highlights the importance of advancing practical solutions that support San Antonio’s broader climate and resilience goals. Micromobility is one of many strategies that can help advance SA Climate Ready goals by improving transportation options, reducing emissions, supporting first- and last-mile connectivity, and expanding access to more sustainable mobility choices across the region.
