Several activities will engage the public throughout October.

SAN ANTONIO (October 1, 2025) – Today, the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, and the Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) launch Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed annually in October. The month will be marked by several events and opportunities for public participation.

On October 3, the CCDV will host its 6th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Symposium, an educational event for professionals and community members featuring local and national experts speaking on domestic violence. Recordings will be posted on the CCDV website for those who cannot attend.

The community can support one another by lighting or decorating homes and businesses in purple to raise awareness about domestic violence. Residents can share their photos on social media using the hashtag #PurplePorchSA.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a reminder that our neighbors may experience struggles we never see, but our community has resources and support to offer,” said Deputy City Manager María Villagómez.

When the CCDV’s 2024 Annual Statistical Report is released, it will describe the state of domestic violence in San Antonio and Bexar County.

“Working together as a coordinated system of services, we can help people affected by domestic violence and build a safer and healthier community,” said The Honorable Monique Diaz, Judge of the 150th Judicial District Court.

People who are affected by domestic violence can find assistance by calling Family Violence Prevention Services, 24/7, at 210-733-8810, or call 911 for an emergency.
