SAN ANTONIO (October 16, 2025) – Following the first meeting of the Governance Committee on October 15 with City Manager Erik Walsh and Councilmembers Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, Phyllis Viagran, and Edward Mungia, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones released the following statement:

“Today, the Governance Committee reviewed and provided substantive input regarding 12 backlogged Council Consideration Requests. We look forward to Tuskegee Airman Memorial Way becoming a reality, while we continue to expeditiously work through other CCRs, such as the Taxpayer Impact Statement and the San Antonio Trades Advisory Board. We need to comply with the current legal landscape and fully understand how implementing these ideas will materially improve the lives of our neighbors.

“It was also abundantly clear that many of the ideas proposed via CCR could be accomplished without a CCR and could be worked through Committee, as has traditionally been the case. As Mayor and Chair of the Governance Committee, I want to ensure we’re being judicious with Council time and implementing sound policies as quickly as possible—and that doesn’t always require a CCR.

“I appreciate the work Council colleagues have done so far, and look forward to turning our sound policy ideas into action together."
