City Announces Winter Holiday Schedule of City Services

SAN ANTONIO (December 18, 2025) — City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, through Thursday, January 1, 2026, in observance of the winter holidays. Public safety and emergency services will remain in operation. Other City services will operate as follows:

Police and Fire

  • Police will be on duty.
  • Fire and EMS personnel will be on duty.

General Services

  • 3-1-1 Call Center will be operational on Tuesday, December 24 through Tuesday, December 31 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. only for urgent animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions. The call center will be operational only for urgent concerns on Thursday, December 25 and Thursday, January 1, for services including animal requests and traffic signal malfunctions from 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Animal Care Officers will be on duty.
  • Code Enforcement Officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage.
  • Downtown parking visitors will enjoy holiday free parking at all on-street meters Wednesday, December 24; Thursday, December 25; and Thursday, January 1. City-operated parking garages will be free from 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 24 through 8 a.m., Friday, December 26 and from midnight, Thursday, January 1 through 6 a.m. Friday, January 2. The City’s Downtown Tuesday program will be temporarily suspended on Tuesday, December 30. Event parking rates will apply at City of San Antonio parking facilities. Regular meter rates will also be in effect.

Waste Collection

  • Garbage, recycling, and organics will be collected Wednesday, December 24, Christmas Eve. There will be no collections on Thursday, December 25, Christmas Day. Those normally Thursday collections will be collected on Friday, December 26. Those normally Friday collections will be collected on Saturday, December 27.
  • There will be no collections on Thursday, January 1, New Year’s Day. Those normally Thursday collections move to Friday, January 2. Those normally Friday collections move to Saturday, January 3.
  • Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will be closed Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It will be open Friday, December 26, and Saturday, December 27. They will be closed Thursday, January 1, New Year’s Day.
  • All four Bulky Waste drop-off centers and the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center will be closed (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby and Culebra) Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They will be open Friday, December 26, and Saturday, December 27. They will be closed Thursday, January 1, New Year’s Day.

Facilities & Administrative Offices

Mixed Schedule

  • San Antonio Public Library locations, including Central Library, will be closed December 24, 25, 26, and 31, and January 1. Library locations will be open December 27 through 30.
  • La Villita and Market Square shops will be closed on December 25 and January 1. Shops will be open December 24 and 26 through 31.
  • Centro de Artes Gallery at Historic Market Square will be closed on December 24 and 25 and January 1, but will be open on December 26 and 31.
  • Alamodome Offices and Box Office will be closed on December 25, 26, 29, and 31, and January 1. The box office is open on December 23, 24, and 27.
  • The Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be open with modified hours December 24 and 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shelter will be closed both December 25 and January 1, with regular business hours December 26 through 30.
  • WIC clinic at Buena Vista will be open on December 30 from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All other Metro Health clinics and offices will be closed.
  • Barrera Fitness Center, Lincoln Community Center, McFarlin Tennis Center, San Antonio Natatorium, and Wheatley Heights Sports Complex will be closed December 24 and 25 and January 1.
  • Fitness in the Park classes will not meet December 24 and 25 and January 1.
  • Parks and Recreation Community Centers will be closed to the public to offer Winter Holiday camps from December 20 through January 7, operations vary by site and school schedules. Camps will be closed December 24 and 25 and January 1.
  • Open Play Community Centers (Bode, Denver Heights, South San, Tobin) will be closed December 21, 24, 25 and 28 and January 1.
  • Parks and Recreation Senior Centers (Lions Field, Gil, Granados, Commander’s House) will be closed December 24 and 25 and January 1
  • Spanish Governors Palace will be closed December 24, 25 and 31, and January 1, but open December 26, 27, 28, and 30.
  • World Heritage Center will be closed December 24, 25, 26 and 31, and January 1, but will be open December 27, 28, and 30.

  • Municipal Court magistration services and SAPD's detention center

  • Fairchild Park tennis and pickleball courts

Closed

  • Head Start administrative offices and school district site
  • Doris Griffin and Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior Centers
  • San Antonio Municipal Court

  • Darner Park Headquarters and Park Reservations Office
  • Pre-K 4 SA Corporate Office will be closed Monday, December 23 through January 1. Education Centers are closed December 23 through January 5.
  • Most Senior/Adult Comprehensive Centers
  • Senior Nutrition Sites
  • Willie Velasquez, Claude Black and Frank Garrett community centers
  • Homeless Connections Hotline and Veteran Services will be closed December 24 to January 1
  • City of San Antonio Street Outreach will be closed December 24 to January 1
  • City of San Antonio Homeless Encampment Team will be closed December 24 to January 1. There are no encampment abatements during this time.
