City of San Antonio Announces Community Planning Workshops Dates for Downtown Sports & Entertainment District.
Community Input Website & Digital Survey Also Launched
SAN ANTONIO – (June 10, 2025) — The City of San Antonio, in partnership with planning and architectural firm Able City, announces the dates for 10 two-day community planning workshops – one in each City Council district. These workshops are designed to both gather input from residents and provide a space to share accurate, up-to-date information about the proposed downtown Sports & Entertainment District. Residents are welcome to drop by at any time during the two-day schedule, whenever it’s most convenient.
About the Two-Day Community Workshops
These two-day community workshops provide a consistent, transparent, community-driven design and development process to gather meaningful input from residents with the goal to establish a set of guiding principles that will help City Council assess proposed project elements and ensure that future decisions reflect community values. The community is welcome to participate at any time throughout the two days.
Each session will feature a variety of opportunities for round-table discussions and focus groups, creating a dynamic space for two-way dialogue and idea sharing with project coordinators – ensuring the community voices are heard and that residents have access to the facts about the project’s scope, funding and potential impact.
- Day 1 will feature a community forum from 6-8 p.m., offering residents the opportunity to hear about the project’s goals from planners and City officials. Representatives from Spurs Sports & Entertainment will also be there to answer questions and talk to residents. The majority of the evening is a hands-on mapping exercise for the community to share their specific ideas for the district.
- Day 2 will include an open house from noon to 7 p.m. with interactive stations, including an exhibit of the core ideas that will help guide the design of the district. Attendees can ask questions and provide additional feedback to the project coordinators.
- The community is also invited to participate in any of the four topic-specific focus groups, which will be held on both days and will explore housing, transportation, local business, and public community space.
These drop-in workshop sessions are designed to be welcoming, engaging and inclusive – offering every attendee a chance to shape a shared vision for the project’s future. City staff, Council members, and representatives from Able City will be on-site to facilitate the interactive workshops.

Community Planning Workshops-Specific Website and Digital Survey
A dedicated project website, SA.gov/SportsDistrict, also launched today to provide residents with more information and planning resources for the workshops. It will be updated regularly with input from the workshops. Those interested in attending a workshop are asked to sign up through the website for planning purposes, although walk-ins are welcome.
Spanish-language translation is available at each workshop and American Sign Language services are available upon request through the website. A bilingual digital survey will also be available on the website through July to ensure all residents can provide input and feedback throughout this process.
“Community input is important at this phase of the project as it really just began, and we will need a two-way conversation with residents to shape it into the place we all want to visit and enjoy,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “We need to understand what people want in this public space and their expectations around the potential downtown development. These community workshops will provide the opportunity for residents to talk directly with project representatives to get the facts, learn more details about the project, and provide their input on what they want to see for the project.”
