SAN ANTONIO (May 23, 2025) — The Office of Sustainability’s Low-Income E-bike Rebate Pilot Program awarded 244 E-bikes as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation block Grant program administered by the Department of Energy (DOE).
On May 21, the first 10 e-bike voucher recipients completed their Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) street skills class to finalize their application process and receive their new e-bike at Pedal Guerrero Bike Shop, 3700 Fredericksburg Rd. The Office of Sustainability partnered with the veteran-owned bike shop to distribute the e-bike vouchers. “We are excited about the number of applicants we have had for this program and hope to offer it again in the future to help those with transportation needs get around town in a sustainable way,” said Doug Melnick, Chief Sustainability Officer. The final applicants were notified last week, and the remaining awardees will continue working with City staff to complete their applications and voucher processing.
The Low-Income E-bike Rebate Pilot Program supports the SA Climate Ready Climate Action and Adaptation Plan transportation reduction strategies. Increasing access to sustainable and alternative transportation methods helps reduce vehicle emissions, improves air quality, and provides access to transportation for residents.
