SAN ANTONIO (October 15, 2026) – The City of San Antonio Department of Human Services is continuing to accept Head Start Preschool applications for the 2026-2027 school year.
The City of San Antonio oversees early childhood education and comprehensive support services to eligible children and families at five local nonprofit childcare centers and at 30 elementary campuses in partnership with San Antonio and Edgewood ISD.
The Head Start Program offers two service options:
- Early Head Start – Serving infants and toddlers from 6 weeks to 35 months old
- Head Start Preschool – Serving preschool children ages 3 to 5 years old
Applications are currently being accepted for the Head Start Preschool program only.
Applications are open to all families, with priority given to households experiencing homelessness, households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), children in foster care, children living with non-custodial family members and children with diagnosed or suspected disabilities or developmental delays.
“Head Start provides comprehensive services for households and teaches children skills they need to be successful in school,” said Melody Woosley, Director, Department of Human Services. “In addition to education, Head Start helps facilitate critical health services like immunizations, vision, dental and hearing screenings, while also connecting with families and caretakers to provide support in meeting personal, housing, employment and education goals.”
Applications are accepted at SAHeadStart.org, and a list of required documents are provided.
